DESQ have just completed two exciting projects for the museum and
galleries sector. The first, Building Characters, for Sheffield
Galleries & Museums Trust and the second for the National Maritime
Museum, an interactive learning resource entitled Leading Lives:
Leadership Lessons from Horatio Nelson. Building Characters
uses a series of portraits from Sheffield Galleries & Museums
Trust, the National Portrait Gallery's collections and a number of
Gerald Scarfe's illustrations to explore the concepts of caricature and
portraiture. DESQ have developed a micro-site with interactive
activities for teachers, downloadable resources for use in the
classroom and a poster designed to support and extend the exhibition.
The site will also enable teachers to exchange teaching ideas and to
upload their students work to an online gallery.
The
Leading Lives website for the National Maritime Museum is an online
learning resource to support the face to face leadership lessons from
the history course currently being developed by the Education
department at the museum and to coincide with the 200-year anniversary
of the Battle of Trafalgar and Nelson's death. The resource looks at
the life and times of Nelson from a modern business perspective,
bringing historic artefacts and his story to life. It's for both
learners on Business Studies A-level courses and also for use by
lifelong learners of all ages. The site is structured around four case
studies and enables learners to explore and interrogate digitised
versions of objects from the museums collection.
