Learning Games
We are an innovator in learning games production in the UK. We develop game-based learning titles that combine video game play and learning. As interactive media becomes commonplace, people increasingly expect immersive, engaging experiences. Our learning games aim to transform the way people learn. We borrow from video games and contemporary media and, using key learning theories, put them together with learning content to create innovative resources that are involving and imaginative and, ultimately, that work. We have developed eQuest for Oxford University Press, a role-playing game (RPG) for primary school classrooms, providing an effective and fun way to support literacy lessons. Other learning games include Maxtrax (a numeracy driving simulation for learndirect); EET, the Eco Extra Terrestrial (environmental game for GridClub.com); English Taxi (an English as a Foreign Language driving simulation for the British Council); Steel City (Basic Skills mini-games for the LSC) and Enter:Game (a game that introduces the games industry, for the Digital Knowledge Exchange). We are a member of Game Republic, a UK regional games developer association and is an industry member of Nesta FutureLab. David Squire, founder and director of DESQ, is an honorary Research Fellow at the University of Bristol, looking at theories of game design and game-based learning to inform practice.
